Solid Wall Insulation
Housing is estimated to account for 27% of all UK carbon emissions and represents a key element of the government’s carbon emission reduction strategy. The main challenge is to address the ‘hard to treat’ homes, consisting of around 6.75m solid wall and non-traditional properties. These homes lose up to 45% of heat through untreated walls, often suffering damp and condensation problems leading to deterioration of both the property condition and the resident’s health.
Many of these properties can be insulated either internally or externally
- External wall insulation provides a cost-effective and flexible method of renovating social housing that is in desperate need of upgrading, both for thermal efficiency and aesthetics. An average property typically saves around 2.4 tonnes CO2 annually after installation of EWI
- Internal wall insulation is a cost-effective alternative for properties where changing the external façade is not appropriate, eg. properties in conservation areas or where local Building Regs may now allow the external structure to be amended (Victorian houses, random stone). It may be intrusive if carried out in an occupied home and reduces the size of the room in which it is installed. We offer the innovative thin film insulation Spacetherm for areas where space is at a premium.
For External Wall Insulation we work with several manufacturers in order to meet a variety of specifications. We offer a range of insulants including EPS, phenolic, cork and rockwool, with a variety of finishes including silicone, acrylic, brick slip and dash.

For Internal Wall Insulation we work with several systems including Knauf EcoStud, Spacetherm aerogel thin film insulation, Kingspan and traditional ‘dot & dab’ insulation panels. We offer technical advice for the most appropriate internal solution based on property construction, space limitations and condensation risk analysis.
As Solid Wall Insulation works fall within the scope of CDM regulations, we are able to take on the role of Principal Contractor, including preparation of Pre-Construction H&S plan and carrying out the role of CDM Co-Ordinator. We provide many resources in-house (electrical, plumbing, joinery, plastering etc) and have arrangements with sub-contractors for other ancilliary works such as scaffolding.
